On June 28 and 29, the Once More Bookstore team of volunteers and many other Friends of the Library Southport Oak Island (FOLSOI) board members filled Murrow Hall (Trinity United Methodist Church) with thousands of books from a generous donation by a local book collector.
The sale was a carefully planned event to share this amazing collection of fiction, poetry and other adult titles with the many regular customers of FOLSOI’s Once More Used Bookstore, plus the visitors in town for the Fourth of July festival.
We had great crowds both days, with customers securing amazing great bargain on books that were in pristine condition. Over half of the 4,000+ books found a new home, and FOLSOI was able to collect almost $4,500 in donated revenue to help support the Harper and Barbee branches through improved collections, children’s programs and supplies for many of the adult book clubs and craft programming.
Thank you to Trinity United Methodist Church for the use of their space at no charge and to our volunteers who made this such a success! The remaining books in the donated collection will be available in our selection at the Once More Bookstore, at the rear of Southport Realty at 727 N. Howe Street, Southport.
This was the best book sale I have ever attended. My intention was simply to browse, but I ended up buying twelve books (twelve!) as the value was undeniable. It was thrilling just to see some of these books, never mind being able to purchase them. Thank you so much FOLSOI for organizing this and making these sales available and affordable to the public!
