Volunteer at Once More Bookstore

Located in the rear of Southport Realty, 727 N Howe St, Southport, NC.

We would love for you to join our bookstore team! From receiving to recycling, we know you’ll enjoy being a part of the Once More Bookstore (OMB). It’s a special place! Here’s a quick look at how you can volunteer your time with us, from when a donated book arrives at the store until it gets into the hands of an avid reader.

Contact Volunteer@FOLSOI.org to apply for any position listed below.

Receiving

How would you like to get a first glimpse of the books that will fill our shelves? We receive donations on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, and you would help unload cars to get these gems inside. We even have a rolling cart to make it easier!

Shelving

Now let’s get those books out on the shelves for our customers to purchase and enjoy! We will sort the donated fiction into boxes, and you would then shelve the books alphabetically by author—simple as that! Books are often ready for shelving on weekday afternoons.

Sales

Are you a people person who loves helping others find their next great read and completing the sale? As a sales volunteer, you would welcome our wonderful customers, orient them to the OMB, and facilitate their purchases (both cash or credit). Shifts are from 10 AM–1 PM or 1 PM–4 PM Monday through Friday, and 10 AM–Noon on Saturdays.

Sales Assistant

Make customer engagement your number one priority! As a sales assistant, you would help meet and greet customers; check the back room for customer requests; assist the sales person with bagging books when things get busy; and restock the shelves with staff picks, new picks, and children’s books so that our guests can always find something fun to take home. This role will have you floating around the store to help where needed. It is a fantastic way to engage with our customers and get to know your fellow volunteers. Shifts are from 11 AM–2 PM Monday through Friday and 10 AM–Noon on Saturdays.

Little Free Library Restocking

Who doesn’t love a Little Free Library? We end up with some fantastic duplicate books from time to time, and you would fill bags of books from the OMB and stock some of the Little Free Libraries around town with our extra treasures.

Recycling

Do you love helping the environment? If so, be part of our recycling team! We will set aside any books that cannot be sold, and you would take them to the Brunswick County Convenience Center in Southport any time they are open.

Summer Markets

Who doesn’t enjoy a good summer market in our fabulous beach community? We would love to build two dedicated teams to sell some of our Once More Bookstore (OMB) books on Wednesdays on Southport Summer Market days and on Mondays at the Oak Island Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market. We are looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to gather the books from the store, set up a tent and tables, sell books, and clean up and return the items to the OMB. This is a great opportunity to spend some time outdoors, spread the word about our bookstore, and interact with members of our vibrant beach community!
