February is National Library Lovers Month, a reminder that there is much to love about our public libraries. Here are some ways to show your love of Harper and Barbee Libraries and ensure that they continue to serve the needs of residents and seasonal visitors.
Get your library card! If you haven’t done it yet, get your free Brunswick County library card!
Patronize your library! Covid has been a challenge, with fewer library visits and in-person programs., but libraries remain open and offer curbside pickup and digital options for reading materials.
Participate in library programs! Whether in-person with a mask or live streaming at home, you’ll be amazed at the informative and entertaining programs offered for everyone from infants to seniors.
Help others access the library! If transportation is a limiting factor, offer a child or senior citizen a ride to the library. Library computers and WiFi are available for those lacking those resources at home.
Volunteer! With library staff busy every day, volunteers help with tasks such as conducting shelf audits and even repairing damaged books. Check with your library to see how you might assist.
Donate! If you’re able to do so, consider donating to your library. As a 501(c)(3) organization, library donations through www.folsoi.org are tax deductible and can be earmarked to a specific library and a specific type of book, periodical, or program.
Share your love on social media! If you’ve discovered something remarkable at your library – a new book, a program, a solution to a problem – tell the world! Follow FOLSOI on Twitter and Facebook and amplify our posts about library programs.
Be an advocate! In a world of competing priorities, libraries are often overlooked. Remind your elected officials that libraries matter to you and your family. Attend public meetings, speak up, and vote!
