On a dark and stormy afternoon, several dozen FOLSOI members braved flooded streets and donned their masks to attend our 31st Annual Membership Meeting at the Southport Community Building.
President Carol Brolley opened the meeting by introducing FOLSOI ‘s Board of Directors and Committee chairs (pictured above). Then, she reviewed the achievements of this challenging year—which were impressive.
We were able to offer Life Long Learners, Meet the Author, and Summer Reading programs online, and plans are in the works for Opera Sunday, Story Time, Crafts 4 Kids, and Robotics in person next year. Attendees were urged to renew their memberships and were reminded of the many benefits of their generosity. Carol also summarized our “Voice of the Customer” focus groups and underscored our commitment to continued advocacy for our libraries.
The remainder of the meeting featured two local authors: Dr. Ken Carter and Ann Ipock. Dr. Carter’s book “The Gift Bearer” is an account of a young man determined to pursue a medical career who draws inspiration from the hermit of Fort Fisher. The hermit’s simple approach to life is a gift to the young man, helping him to navigate life’s circumstances and choices. Dr. Carter recently retired after 47 years as an emergency physician and with his wife, will devote himself to missionary work in Kenya.
Ann Ipock is the award-winning author of four “Life is Short” books and entertained the audience with accounts of her daily aggravations as a Southern woman married to the long-suffering Russell. Ann donated copies of her books to our libraries so that we can enjoy more of her humor.
From the gorgeous flowers donated by Wild by Nature to the “library card” cookies and artwork by summer reading program youngsters, the meeting was a credit to everyone involved. For those unable to attend, we will post a link to the recording. Oh… and please renew your membership!
Thank you to the wonderful friends who braved the storm to join us for the annual meeting! We appreciate your support!
