Who keeps track of FOLSOI’s money? I do! I am the new treasurer for FOLSOI. I have been passionate about libraries since I learned to read. Books and reading have been a lifelong love.

When I moved to Southport four-and-one-half years ago, one of the first things I did was get a library card. I was also looking for ways to volunteer with the libraries. A neighbor introduced me to Diana Fotinatos who at that time was the president of the FOLSOI board of directors.

A year ago, I attended a FOLSOI board of directors meeting as a guest, and shortly afterwards, I agreed to become the treasurer. And I am so happy I did!  What an amazing group of volunteers with the same passion for books and reading and libraries as me.

For the next several months, I was mentored by FOLSOI’s outgoing treasurer, Bill Leuschner. When I took the treasurer role officially at the annual meeting in September 2020, I felt ready to manage the FOLSOI books. After all, I was a bookkeeper at my local library in my native Pennsylvania. I was not a complete stranger to maintaining the financials for a library.

COVID-19 has created challenges that are unprecedented. I like to think that I am a positive person, something that has been sorely tested in the last ten months. However, I remain optimistic! Every penny donated to our libraries will be counted and utilized for our library patrons. And we will emerge from these challenges even stronger than before!
