Sale of the bags will take place at the Book Sale on April 7th at Southport Realty, 10am-1pm.

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF OPERA APPRECIATION
 The Friends of the Library Southport&Oak Island welcome UNC-W music Professor Nancy King, accompanist Patricia Ainspac and distinguished Wilmington Opera Outreach Program alumni to celebrate 10 consecutive years of their Opera Appreciation Series on Sunday, February 5, at 2pm at the Southport Community Center. The program will be a look back at some of the audience’s favorite operatic selections from the past 10 years. A reception will follow.

Sunday, February 12 at 2pm UNC-WOOP students under the direction of Professor King will perform selections from their upcoming production of Massenet’s Cinderella. Revisit this fairy tale you enjoyed as a child. Children are most welcome! Programs are free and open to the public.

All new and renewal memberships between September, 2011 and February 12, 2012 will be eligible for a drawing to be held at the beginning of the program. Prizes donated by local businesses include a Kayak Tour with the Adventure Company, a Harbor Tour aboard the Solomon T, a Gift Certificate to Thai-By-The-Sea and more. Membership forms are available at Barbee or Harper Libraries or on our website www.folsoi.org

February  13, 2011 – Opera in Southport
At 2:00 pm the members of UNC- WOOP! will show off their versatility, as they travel from operetta to the Broadway stage.  Featuring music of Gilbert and Sullivan, Franz Lehar, and selections from Guys and Dolls.  Performance will be held at the Southport Community Center on Moore Street.  Once again this year all new and renewing members for 2011 will be eligible for a chance at winning three great prizes.

February 10, 2011 -  Lifelong Learners – Meets at Barbee Library every Thursday at 10:00 am
Topic: Events that Changed History, with lectures provided by Dr. Rufus Fears, winner of some twenty-five teaching awards at various universities.

March 16, 2011 – “Frankenstein” – Join John Whiting, professor emeritus, Suny Orange, for a lecture/film demonstration on Mary Shelley, Boris Karloff, Mel Brooks and the Frankenstein Monster at Barbee Library, 10 AM to 12 PM.
